Facts on Indian Outbound

The following facts on Indian Outbound Tourism were revealed in the Nielsen India Outbound Travel Monitor 2008, conducted in partnership with the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA):
Reasons for Traveling Abroad

64% travel for sight-seeing
47% travel to explore new country
26% travel for a change from daily routine or to de-stress
26% travel for Visiting Family and Relatives (VFR)
Popular Region
Asia is the most popular region for Indians, accounting for 72% of the most recent leisure trips and 63 % of business trips. Europe attracts a greater percentage (18%) of Indian travelers for business rather than for pleasure (14%). 

Criteria for selection of destination
62% travelers consider 'nature and the environment' as the most important criteria followed by 'culture and art'(53%), 'safety' (50%) and 'hygiene' (48%).
Most Preferred Destination
Singapore is the most preferred destinations for Indians (24%), followed by Dubai, Australia and Malaysia each at 17%.
